How Will Than Shwe be Remembered?

This was the patriotic song that they sang in adulation for the young Bo Aung San when he was barely twenty-seven, but he remained clear-sighted, steady and determined with the extremely high standards he set himself in his endeavours to serve the nation.

Now let us turn our attention to Than Shwe. Would anyone be inspired to write him a song and how would he be remembered in history?

Would it be something like:-

 

Parents of Myanmar

You must give birth to scoundrels

Like U Than Shwe

He will make history

His deeds will be recorded in annals

The monstrous buffoon U Than Shwe

 

The main reason for the shooting, clubbing, torturing, and killing of the peaceful protesting monks and civilians is not only is Than Shwe a cold blooded calculating murderer, it is also because he does not have the clear-sightedness, intelligence or wisdom to know of any other action to take to control the protesters.

Than Shwe carried out his plan to attack the people even though he knew the world was watching, simply because he had the power to do so and that he could get away with it.

When a dehumanized army gets orders from their commander who is a dangerous criminal, it gets into a state of intoxication promoting violence and brutality, similar to a hungry hyena ready for the kill when it smells blood.

He ordered his Minister of Religious Affairs to give the Superior Monks a chilling warning if they did not get the monks’ protest to stop.

The courage, determination and persistence of the young monks surprised him, and in fuelled his anger.

Although he was encouraged to use restraint by the UNSC, his pig headedness and arrogance pushed him, as per usual to use his brawn instead of his brain.Here was a chance for him to change his ways and use alternative tactics, not to lose face and to gain some respect in the eyes of the world, but he blew it.

Finally, to make himself even more popular, he put his long time hated enemy, Aung San Suu Kyi inside Insein Jail, simply because she posed the biggest threat to his existence and power, she is a prominent disciple of the monks, and because she is supported and loved by all.

Unlike Bogyoke Aung San who is remembered as the hero of Burma, he will instead be written down in history as one of the most ignorant criminal dictators of Burma.
