The Evil Ones
Burma was a happy land before those among us became evil, greedy and wild.
A glorious land filled with warm-hearted, joyful peoples, a beautiful land rich with her natural resources of teak, rubies, sapphires, emeralds, rice and oil, a land that had such varied sceneries, from hot open plains, lush green forests to cool misty mountains, a land with meandering rivers and wide clean lakes full of wild fowl and fresh water fish, a land that had so much potential, abundance and a land that promised us so much.
The evil ones chopped down our trees, ravaged our precious natural resources, destroyed our land, burnt down our villages, knocked down our temples, damaged our lakes, and raped and killed our people.
Now our country is weeping, weeping, and feeling so desperately homesick for what she once was. Our country is heartbroken, so broken, as she lies dying; she is now a barren land, a hollow, artificial Disneyland, and a battle ground filled with ghosts and lost souls.
We were not meant to be slaves nor masters of others. We strayed too far beyond our true nature. Hatred, anger and fear are not our true states. No man was meant to abuse or control others.
We were peoples who were varied, like a beautiful tapestry, in our wonderful traditions, characteristics, beliefs, languages and songs. We knew and acknowledged each other’s beauty, each other’s gifts, we understood and accepted each other’s differences, and we were like brothers and sisters.
We have had amazing history which our elders told; there had been rulers that had been good and bad, whom our ancestors had recorded and been proud of.
Every nationality of Burma, the Burmese, non-Burmese, Shans, Karens, Kachins, Chins, Mons, Arakanese and all other ethnic groups know what we had all been through, and we all know in our hearts what was true.
There was a time when we trusted each other and believed in each other and knew how to live peacefully together.
What ever happened to the happiness that we once shared, the understanding and appreciation we had for each other?
If we had some gentleness and compassion for ourselves, shouldn’t it be just as easy to feel the same way about one another? If we could see our own beauty and talents, surely it would be easy to see one another’s beauty and talents too?
There was a time when we were ready to proceed with working together and created an Agreement that was for the benefit of ALL.
There was a time when things were bad, and we all rose together as “one”.
Since those times, the evil ones became afraid of their own safety and survival, so they multiplied their army, used some of us as their puppets and became even more evil than before.
Now they themselves know that they have gone too far from their true nature but they cannot go back. They have lost their way, and their greed for power has turned them into untamed zombies without any human conscience.
We must not follow their way, if we do, then we will be lost too. We need to go back again to that place when we had gentleness and caring in our hearts for each other. Instil again that warmth and recognition of our vulnerable human souls.
Please look within, look within, search within, search for that true nature, that beautiful nature we once shared.
Revive our human values,
Revive our human spirit,
Revive our gentleness,
Revive our innocence
Revive our compassion and our love.
Give each other autonomy, respect, rights and happiness that every living being needs.
Please do everything you can to help our Motherland to live again, breathe again freely, joyfully and naturally, and she will recover from her sickness, sadness and broken heart.
