11: Statement in support of the people and monks of Burma
27 September, 2007
From the Restoration Council of Shan State (RCSS)
Loi Tai Leng, Shan State, Burma.
1. The people and monks of Burma are demonstrating against the oppression of the dictators of Burma who have made life miserable for the people of Burma and who have led the country into ruin. The people demand a democracy but the dictators have refused this.
2. The government of Burma closes their eyes and ears to the needs of the people. The seven step Road Map for change in Burma and the National Convention are both a sham. Some groups including cease-fire groups, have participated in this process but all their proposals are rejected. The NLD and SNLD were not allowed to participate.
3. The dictators say that there should be elections. But they believe they will lose so they dare not have elections. One of the purposes of raising the fuel prices is a test to see how the population will react.
4. The R.C.S.S sees that the problems now arising in Burma should be addressed peacefully. The S.P.D.C should not kill the Buddhist monks and the people. The people are Buddhist and highly respect the monks. The S.P.D.C will have greater problems if they continue to attack the monks.
5. The RCSS is joining in consultation with the NLD,NCUB, NCGUB, ENC, KNPP,KIO,SNLD,NMSP,ANC,CNF,ABSDF and KNU in order to find a solution to the political problems in Burma .
6. We call on the UN, ASEAN and CHINA to help the people and monks of Burma who have been imprisoned by the dictators. The internal problems of Burma have an international effect as Burma is a member of ASEAN and the UN. One of the many effects is economic. We recommend that Burma should be removed from ASEAN and the UN.
7. The R.C.S.S stands with the people and monks of Burma as the dictators use violence against them. We are ready to help and protect the people and the monks.
